APPLY: Unilever Sustainable Living Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2015–16

Applications are now open for this year's Unilever Sustainable Living Young Entrepreneurs awards.

The Awards are based on the belief that given the chance and the right support, young people around the world can create positive movements for change and a brighter future.

Over the last three years, we have worked closely with Unilever to ensure the awards programme meets the company’s strategic ambitions to support young people and create life-changing impact on the ground of diverse communities around the world.

This year, the awards criteria also reflect the United Nations Global Goals to be announced on 25 September 2015.

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) contributes academic insight in framing the competition, co-ordinates the selection of the finalists and provides mentoring support to the winning entrepreneurs.


Competition dates

This year’s competition opened on 23 September 2015 and will close on the 18 November 2015.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for young entrepreneurs aged 35 and under who contribute to one or more of the eight Global Goals identified as being the most relevant to Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan:

We are looking for innovative and scaleable technologies or initiatives that span across a number of these areas, and help shape the future described by the Global Goals.


Prizes

Seven finalists will receive a combined total of €200,000 in funding and support to help take their sustainable living initiatives to the next level.

The prize package also includes customised expert support, access to an online business development programme, an accelerator workshop at the University of Cambridge, and networking with senior executives and sustainability leaders at Unilever’s headquarters.

Francis Osifo’s VergePOS wins AppCircus Lagos

VergePOS, developed by Francis Osifo, has won the Lagos Appcircus event which took place on 8th Oct 2015 at the Co-Creation Hub, Lagos.

Francis Osifo and 8 other developers pitched their apps to a professional jury who were impressed with VergePOS – a simple and intuitive point of sale (POS) solution for retailers, built to address to tackle the challenges faced by retailers across Africa and the world at large.

The win means Francis will be heading to Barcelona, Spain for the 2016 edition of the Mobile Premier Awards, the largest cross-platform app showcase in the mobile industry, to pitch with other Appcircus winners from around the world for a chance to become overall winner.

Previous winners of Appcircus in Barcelona include apps such as Waze, Layar, Swiftkey and others.
