The Vice Chancellor of the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Prof Michael Ajisafe, has faulted the passage of a bill by the Senate extending the validity of results acquired in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to a period of three years.

This is as the Vice Chancellor revealed that no fewer than 23 students of the university have been rusticated in the last one session over involvement in vandalism , adding that the university has begun subjecting students’ to drug tests as a prerequisite for admission.

The VC said in this year’s convocation ceremony, the university will confer honourary degrees on Prof. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, President, Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, USA , a business mogul, Dr Cosmas Maduka, and Chief Raymond Zard , a Lebanese business tycoon.

Ajisafe spoke in the university on Friday during a press conference heralding the 2016 convocation ceremony, where 912 students will bag degrees in various courses.

Ajisafe disclosed that 61 students of the university earned first honour while 399 graduated with second class upper degree .

The academic urged the federal government to work on the exchange rate, where a dollar now exchanges for N450, lamenting that the situation is affecting the importation of equipment from abroad.

The VC averred that the passage of the bill by the Senate would make admission to be more problematic in the Nigerian universities, saying “the senate would have taken cognizance of the fact that each university has an admission quota every year.

“And a situation whereby a university that can’t even cope with a year quota is now being dragged into admitting students who had qualified for the past three years will make admission policy more cumbersome.

So to us in this university, we believe problem will come from there”, he said
