Athletics Team

The word Athletics is an exclusive collection of sporting events that involve competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and Field, road running, cross country running, and race walking. Track and field events are generally individual sports with athletes challenging each other to decide a single victor. The running events are categorized as sprints, middle and long distance events, relays, and hurdling. Regular jumping events include long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault, while the most common throwing events are shot put, javelin and discus. The majority of athletes tend to specialize in some event (or event type) with the aim of perfecting their performances.

 
ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR

The Abuad athletics team has participated in different events both local and the national. Following are the achievements so far:

  1. In 2015, the 6th Nigeria Private University games (NPUGA) edition was hosted in ABUAD and the team won 27 Medals (13Gold, 9Silver, 5Bronze).
  2. In 2016, the team won 27 Medals (9 Gold, 9Silver, 9 bronze) in 2nd Ekiti State Higher Institutions Game (ESHIGA).
  3. 2017, the team won 13 Medals (9 Gold, 3Silver, 1 Bronze) in 7th edition of NPUGA Games NILE University, Abuja.
  4. In 2019, the team won 25 Medals (8 Gold, 8Silver, 9 bronze) in 3rd Ekiti State Higher Institutions Game (ESHIGA).
  5. The team has able to produce number of athletes both at the International and National level.
  6. The team is among the Universities that participated in Nigeria University Games (NUGA) 2022 and the team is well rated among the competitive sports in ABUAD. Also, there is an Athletics Festival organized annually tagged “The Yeye Aare Modupe  Babalola Athletics Festival (YAMBAF)” The events has added values to many athletes both in career advancement and financial aid. Overall winner for the event always stand chances of a trip to Dubai with lots of cash prices to other participants from first to third winners both in male and female categories.

Athletics comprises many disciplines, many join for fitness purposes in order to meet up with campus challenges and many joined for potential physical abilities.

Besides facilities, you’ll also have professional coaches who have experienced and you need these to show you the ropes that can land you into that national team of your dream.

Practicing and playing in a professional environment will have a positive impact on your overall performance. Many factors could play into your favor, especially if you show a spirit of resilience from the word start. For instance, your coach might separate you from the rest of the team from time to time for rigorous training and importance. Not everyone who joins athletics has a passion for competition. Some are in for fitness and wellness. Your coach known how to handle both casual and elite competitors, which will befit you accordingly, unlike if you were to do it alone.

Just like any other business or profession, athletics too will be fun if you can meet other new people for networking. Athletic team attracts people with similar interests and views about life. You can also develop long-term friendships because you’ll likely have common beliefs in matters lifestyle, education, and life in general.

Besides self-motivation, there are lots more to this, there is scholarship opportunity for an outstanding performance, allowances reward during an outing event, cash reward during YEYE AARE MODUPE BABALOLA ATHLETICS FESTIVAL ( YAMBAF ) with trip reward for the overall winner and lots more.
