Scrabble is a board game based on words, numbers and puzzles. It is usually played by two players, taking turns to form words using specially designed equipment including:
Scrabble Board: a specially built 15 by 15 squared board with 61 choice squares and the others as plain faced squares.
Scrabble Tiles: a set of 100 lettered tiles with corresponding values imprinted on them.
Racks: a specially crafted rack that enables players keep their tiles visible to them but concealed from the opponent.
Stationery: score sheets, pens and specially designed mark off sheets for identifying used tiles.
Scrabble is played by forming words from 7 tiles picked at random, placing the words on the board, calculating and recording the scores.
At the end of each game, the player with the higher score wins that particular round of games.
ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR
So far so good, our first outing was an round success where we shocked them, thinking we are babe university, we won the following medals in 2013 Nigeria Private Institution Games (JABU 2013): 5 Gold, 7 Sliver, 2 Bronze. There after ABUAD hosted the NPUGA 2015 edition here on our ground where we display another tremendous performance showing we can do it better where we won 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze. Subsequently NILE University ABUJA hosted the 2017 edition of NPUGA, Where we won Team Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze medals.
– Belonging to a forward thinking and cummulative grade point average conscious group.
– Joining both offline and online platforms where you can learn to improve both your game and your grades as well as hear testimonies of people who have done that before you.
– Having something to keep you pleasantly occupied thereby staying away from negative influences.
– Opportunities for oversea travels and tours playing Scrabble and attending workshops, seminars and conferences.
To learn Scrabble professionally, all you need to have are:
– A strong will to learn.
– A desire to stand out from.the crowd.
– A teachable spirit.
– An internet enabled phone and a laptop computer.
Application of scrabble in engineering.
A project work written by Nadezda Kobzeva in 2015 suggests that Critical reasoning is required in engineering and Scrabble significantly improves critical reasoning.
The Swift calculations required in scrabble has been proven to help home mathematical skills as can be seen in Adam Logan, a professor of mathematics who happens to be a Putnam fellow and a Scrabble world champion.
Ganesh as a non – English native speaker used Scrabble to enhance his English ability, today he teaches English language as his profession.
Sanchit Kapoor, using Cognitive Development occasioned by active Scrabble play, achieved a perfect score of 2400 out of a possible 2400 in the renowned Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in 2015. He is a World Scrabble Champion at the Youth Level.
