College of Engineering || AN OVERVIEW

The College of Engineering is the fastest growing College in the University in terms of student enrolment. The College curriculum is attractive because of the blend of the traditional and modern programmes established.

The College offers courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) at undergraduate level. It is a five-year programme for students entering at 100 Level, and four years for Direct Entry students. All courses run on a common foundation of basic studies in mathematics, basic sciences, engineering sciences and General Studies. Opportunities are also provided for students to take approved courses from other disciplines such that the prospective Engineer becomes a well-rounded person at graduation. The mode of teaching includes lectures, tutorials, laboratory and workshop practices. Teaching method in ABUAD is designed to meet the 21st century pedagogic delivery in very conducive, well-furnished, air-conditioned classrooms and lecture theatres. It is referred to as the ABUAD System, which consists of the use of interactive electronic platforms, with Power Point presentation as opposed to the traditional “chalk and talk” method. Library facilities are available in form of traditional physical library stocked with up-to-date books and journals, as well as the e-library with hundreds of networked computer systems, for students and staff .

Seven  programmes  are offered,  grouped into four Departments as follows:

1. Department of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering:

B. Eng. Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

B. Eng. Degree in Computer Engineering

2.    Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering:

B. Eng. Degree in Mechanical Engineering

B. Eng. Degree in Mechatronics Engineering

3.    Department of Civil Engineering:

B. Eng. Degree in Civil Engineering

4.   Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering:

B. Eng. Degree in Petroleum Engineering

B. Eng. Degree in Chemical Engineering

Mechatronics is a novel and innovative programme offered in only a few institutions at present, though it is an indispensable one in modern engineering and technology. It is an interdisciplinary programme encompassing mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer and control engineering disciplines. Virtually all modern machineries, equipment and instrumentation are combinations of these engineering disciplines, ranging from automobiles, aviation, military hardware, satellite and space technology, robotics, to computer games and toys, etc.
