ABUAD fly Past Babcock

The Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has justified the acronym: Centre of Excellence in Sports. The Sports team made a remarkable Success in the one day Sports fiesta between the institution and Babcock University, Iperu-Remo in Ogun State. Led by the Sports Director, Professor Michael Ajisafe, the fiesta which was the first outing of ABUAD Sports team, had sixty-eight athletes from nine categories of track and field events. In Basketball, ABUAD thrashed Babcock with 74 to 57 points; Babcock was also walloped by three goals to nothing in Handball while the Badminton team of ABUAD defeated Babcock by 2 goals to 1 in the Male Category. They also lost in the Female Category by 2 points to nothing. Tennis was not different, as Babcock failed to overcome ABUAD by 3-2. However, the two teams tied in both football and table tennis after pulsating encounters. They both played a 1-1 draw in the two events. In Athletics and Volleyball, ABUAD was defeated by 2-0 and 1-2 respectively. Earlier, the ABUAD Director of Sports who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Ajisafe congratulated all the athletes of both Universities for their display of genuine Sportsmanship. He expressed gratitude to the host (Babcock) for their warm reception and commended them for their co-operation. Prof Ajisafe called on other Universities to emulate Babcock by organizing many sporting activities between Ivory towers with a view to developing more talents for the upliftment of Sports in Nigeria and fostering friendship among youths. The don called on sports loving Nigerians to donate trophies for the various categories of sports adding that healthy youths are the future of any Country aspiring for greatness. While thanking ABUAD sports Management for their co-operation, the Sporting Director of Babcock University called on the University Sports League to organize regular seminars for track and field coaches in the country with the aim of returning Nigeria to winning ways at the next Olympics in Brazil. He praised the athletes for engaging each other professionally. The Director urged stakeholders not to pay lip service to sports development in the Country.
