ABUAD partners with University of Strathclyde, Glasgow

Determined to continue to maintain its leadership position in qualitative and reformatory education, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), is developing an International Academic Collaboration with Strathclyde Law School, Glasgow, United Kingdom in research, teaching and knowledge exchange activities.

This is sequel to a January 16, 2014 meeting held at the invitation of the University of Strathclyde in the Lord Hope Building at the University of Strathclyde by the representatives of the two institutions.

ABUAD was represented by the trio of the Ag. Provost, College of Law, Ass. Professor E. Smaranda Olarinde, the Provost, College of Sciences, Professor Ojo Emmanuel Ademola and the Secretary of ABUAD’s Corporate Communication Strategy Committee, Dr. Abdulsalam Ajetunmobi,  while University of Strathclyde Law School team consisted of Prof. Mark Poustie, Vice Dean (Internationalization), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof. Bryan Clark- Dean, Law School; Dr Francesco Sindico- Law School Internationalisation Coordinator and Director, Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law and Governance and Dr Hakeem Yusuf- Senior Lecturer.

Specific areas of collaboration identified and discussed at the meeting included Environmental, Energy and Climate Change Law; Crime and Security, including Human Rights Law and IT and Cyber security.

Other areas of mutual benefits to the two collaborating institutions are:

  • Collaboration in the development and delivery of a LLM programme in Environmental, Energy and Climate Change Law leading, in the long term, to a possible joint degree;
  • Summer School on crime and security;
  • Collaboration in IT and Cyber security.
  • Opportunities for ABUAD students to undertake undergraduate programmes of study of the University of Strathclyde.
  • Opportunities for teaching exchanges between staff of the ABUAD and those of the University of Strathclyde.
  • Opportunities for students of ABUAD to undertake doctoral research at the University of Strathclyde.
  • Opportunities for staff of ABUAD to undertake and collaborate in research at the University of Strathclyde and vice-versa.
  • Opportunities for staff of ABUAD and the University of Strathclyde to participate in academic conferencing.
  • Opportunities to exchange academic materials between ABUAD and the University of Strathclyde.
  • Opportunity for joint supervision of Postgraduate Students to the PhD Levels.
  • Opportunities for joint Bid preparation for University World Bank grants or funding
  • Opportunities for University of Strathclyde to provide a set of validated awards in any of the following areas:
  • MSc in Mediation and Conflict Resolution
  • M.Sc. Police Science
  • M.Sc. Criminology
  • LLM International Law
  • LLM International Corporate/Business Law
  • LLM Environmental Law MBA Innovative Management
  • MSc Innovative Management MSc Oil & Gas Management
  • MSc Education Technology

A formal MOU is expected to be signed by both institutions after the return visit of the University of Strathclyde later in the year.

The meeting offered an excellent opportunity for the representatives of the two institutions to gain more information and identify common objectives in order to develop institutional collaborations.
