The festering fever of dress code in universities.

The fever of dress code introduced by the authorities of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), is beginning to fester even beyond the four corners of the university into some Federal and State institutions, with the latest being Osun State College of education, Ila-Orangun.

Delivering a speech at the maiden matriculation of students undergoing degree programmes of the Ekiti State Univesity at Ila-Orangun last week, the Acting Provost of the College, Dr. Bashiru Gbadamosi, said the introduction of the has become necessary in order to ensure sanity within the institution.

According to Gbadamosi, both male and female students of the institution must dress decently in a way that would portray them as responsible adults and members of the society that the younger ones would like to emulate.

He said the school authorities would strictly enforce the new dress code, adding that errant students would be severely sanctioned.

ABUAD had long introduced a dress code whereby students, across board, have complied with descent dressing habit of male students being formally dressed with their shirts tucked in and their ties in place while their female counterparts have also shunned wearing of provocative dresses.

They have equally complied with colour code for each of the Colleges, viz:.

College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Red,

College of Sciences, Gold,

College of Social and Management Sciences, Blue,

College of Law, White,

College of Engineering, Green.

To demonstrate its seriousness in this regard and show that the university will always reward excellence and compliance with set rules and sanction any breach therefrom, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Michael Ajisafe, handsomely rewarded nine randomly picked well-dressed students during the January 20, 2014 Students’ Congress.

Ajisafe took the gospel of decent and formal dressing to the Afe Babalola International Study Centre, Ibadan, (ABISC) during his visit to the institution on February 20 where he commended and rewarded the three best dressed male and three best dressed female students with some gifts.

ABUAD is so particular, passionate and finicky about decent dressing that the Founder, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, sometimes last year randomly picked some well dressed students and branded them ABUAD Dressing Ambassadors.

Truly and undoubtedly, obedience and compliance will always pay off, today, tomorrow and ad infinitum.
