The programmes in the Department are being upgraded and expanded on a continuous basis in line with the latest development in the field of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
All our programmes reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of the science of Nutrition. The Departmental staff consists of Academic, Laboratory, and Non-teaching /Supportive Staff
The Department also offers postgraduate programmes at the MSc level.

CAREER PROSPECT FOR NUTRITION GRADUATES
The balance of courses in basic sciences, social sciences and biological sciences, and integration of these in human nutrition courses prepare you for many career options.
Holder of a degree in Human Nutrition can be employed as nutrition programme officer or research fellow with the UNICEF, Federal Institute Industrial Research Organization (FIIRO), Institute of International Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) or other relevant International Agencies with interest in nutrition programmes. Nutritionists have occupied top positions as researchers, programme officers, advisors under FAO, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), World Food Programme of the United Nations and WHO. You may be employed as a Local, State or Federal Ministry of Health Nutrition Officer.
National Emergency Relief Agency (NERA) at the National, State and Local Government level employs nutritionist as part of the relief team. Most Medical Schools, Teacher’s Colleges, University of Agriculture, School of Nursing or School of Health Technology and Women’s Development Centres including Agriculture Extension Settlements employ graduates of Human Nutrition and Dietetics to work as instructors/teacher/lecturers. A graduate of this Department may work as Quality Control Officer or become sales representatives to big food and pharmaceutical companies to promote sales of food products and food supplements including vitamins and minerals. Government institutions including National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have found graduates of Human Nutrition and Dietetics appointable. The Custom and Excise Duty also employs nutritionists to control the importation of banned food products into the Nigerian Market.
You may get a job related to food and nutrition such as an officer in charge of food service in Health Institutions, Corporate Organizations or hospitality businesses or in another field of interest, using the knowledge and skills you have gained through your education and life experience. A dietitian-nutritionist may continue his/her education through a hospital-based dietetics training programme.
