Abstract

This paper discusses issues relating to wildlife, conservation and biodiversity and the future regulation of these matters in South Africa. It deals with an issue which has, to some extent, captured the public imagination in South Africa and abroad, because of its controversial nature. The paper also examines the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa on these issues. It posits that the decision raises interesting legal issues worthy of analysis. The paper provides a critical legal analysis of the practice of canned lion hunting in South Africa.
