A Chinese Language Institute, The Confucius Institute has partnered with the Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) in its multi-lingua programmes. To this end, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute and ABUAD had been signed by the Confucius Director, Professor Rose Jiang and the Vice Chancellor of ABUAD, Professor Sidi Osho. Under the agreement, the Confucius Institute will provide Chinese tutors to teach Chinese languages and cultures aimed at producing graduates with international relevance. At the ceremony, the Confucius Director, Professor Rose Jiang while promising support from both Chinese Embassy and Government announced plans to invite scholars and members of Staff to China for academic exchange visits. This move, she said will strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two Countries. Responding, the Vice Chancellor of ABUAD, Professor Sidi Osho thanked her for believing in ABUAD’s mission and vision. She revealed the University’s preparedness to support any initiative from the Chinese government that will promote educational advancement. Professor Osho also commended Chinese government’s efforts and commitment towards facilitating youth empowerment in Nigeria. The capacity building programme is an integral part of ABUAD-Chinese vision to fastrack the entry of Nigerians into the Chinese culture and development efforts. The initiative will provide youths with vocational trainings, a commitment that supports the Nigerian government’s drive to address the issue of youth unemployment. Meanwhile, two Chinese instructors have been posted and started working at ABUAD. They are Messrs Charles Ezemezu (a Nigerian) and Zhao Yuan Ryan a Chinese while another instructor is being expected soon from China. The contents of courses are mainly Chinese language and martial arts (otherwise known as Kung Fu). This will expose them to the world of Chinese and their success secrets. It would also arouse students hunger to learn Chinese language hence equip those who want to work or do business with Chinese people. The course will also prepare students for International Chinese language examinations which in turn will attract scholarship. China is emerging as the most stable economy in the world. Infact, the second world best economy after the USA with a population of more than 1.3billion people. Chinese goods alone account for over sixty percent of imported goods into Nigeria, while they are also leading in the total Direct Foreign Investment (FDI) in the Country.
