A team of Bankers from Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, led by the President and Chairman of Council, Mr. Laoye Jayeola was in ABUAD on a courtesy call on April 11, 2012.
The courtesy call which lasted for about an hour had the presence of both local and national members of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria in attendance.
While delivering his address, the Provost, College of Social and Management Sciences, Dr. Y.O. Lawal acknowledged the gesture by members of CIBN for choosing to visit Afe Babalola University. Dr Lawal said the Department of Banking and Finance is a strong department in the College of Social and Management Sciences. He said students in the College are groomed in the early stage for professional examinations. According to him, students are trained to take the Professional Examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) which will endow them the opportunity to become certified as professionals in their chosen careers and also become members of the institutes. He therefore called on the Institute to use its statutory power to help the College.
In her address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sidi Osho, lauded the presence of the Team from CIBN. Prof. Osho who spoke on the vision of the University to produce students that are globally relevant, implored the Institution to look at the possibility of ABUAD holding interactions with CIBN stakeholders and also called for a platform for CIBN to support the best student in the College for scholarship. Prof. Osho also requested for a CIBN building in ABUAD.
Reacting on behalf of the Team, the President and Chairman of Council, CIBN, said, the visit by the Team to Afe Babalola University was a familiarization visit; and that the rationale for the visit was for the professionals, that is, CIBN to meet with the trainers and the students being trained. He however, said that the Institute will address the request of the University in the areas of regular visitation by CIBN, interaction, scholarship, e-learning and the erection of Ekiti Hall (CIBN Building) in Afe Babalola University.
