0

The importance of origin and history to the development of any society cannot be over-emphasized, considering the reference role of history in the preservation of our societal norms and culture, it is imperative that the history of all communities in Ekiti state be compiled, stored in a retrieval bank and be readily available and accessible in hard and soft copies both in the library and on the website.

The Chairman, Utility Committee of Ekiti State Council of Obas, His Royal Majesty, Oba Oyebade of Ogotun Ekiti made the disclosure when he led nine other traditional rulers on a visit to the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti at the University’s Council Chamber.

The Oba explained that embarking on the historical compendium became necessary because most indigenes could not have access to the authentic history of their towns since the State was created.

He announced that the project, Historical Archive Centre, when completed will document history and other peculiarities of all the 126 towns in Ekiti State and put an authentic end to Ekiti Parapo War since it will mark the end of an era of going to the National Archive at Ibadan for retrieval of historical facts about all towns in Ekiti State.

Oba Oyebade further told Aare that the content of the proposed Royal Compendium will form the original structure on which the content of Historical Archive will be erected.

Aare Afe Babalola while commenting on the proposed project which he described as worthwhile and long over-due thanked them for the initiative adding that a group of people without history is like a car without engine. He urged them to involve all sons and daughters of Ekiti both at home and in Diaspora in the project.

Aare Afe Babalola promised to sponsor, free of charge, the printing of the Royal Compendium.
