NUC extols ABUAD on Facilities

With the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, taking its consolidation with the recent Resource Assessment Visit of intellectuals from National Universities Commission (NUC), the College, which may soon take off, may be an El Dorado of sort for the attainment of undiluted medical prowess.

The team, led by Dr. (Mrs) Modupe Adeniran, was on a two-day visit, Wednesday, September 14 and Thursday, September 15, 2011, to evaluate facilities at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, in respect of the commencement of Medicine and Health Sciences and Geology, and as well inspect facilities at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ido-Ekiti, a Centre which ABUAD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with as regards its medical programmes.

Thus, on a plain note, having gone through ABUAD facilities, the Provost, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Benjamin C. Ozumba, who was a member of the NUC Resource Inspection Team, said “Words cannot praise enough what we have seen in Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti. Even the Federal Government could not have done so much within this short period of the university’s existence”.

Prof. Ozumba declared this at the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, when the team paid a courtesy call on the monarch.

Commenting, Oba Adejugbe said with confidence that the facilities would cater for NUC’s requirements to commence the courses at ABUAD. The Monarch also praised the Founder of the University.

According to him, “Anything Aare Afe Babalola does is always the best. His farm is one of the best. He is hardworking and unassuming. He is not just a lover of the environment; he is as well a lover of quality education.”

Oba Adejugbe added: “The University is a miracle because of the rate of development on the campus. I know you (NUC) will give us the certificate and you will not regret you did. The Federal Medical Centre, Ido Ekiti, has also provided the institution with some assistance. By the time you come in the next five years, we would have had our own hospital at ABUAD.”

Oba Adejugbe therefore used the opportunity to appeal to philanthropists to emulate Aare Afe Babalola so that unemployment in the country could be reduced.

In continuation of its inspection, the team, led by Dr. Mrs Adeniran, proceeded to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ido Ekiti, on Thursday, to inspect the facilities in the hospital. At FMC, headed by Dr. (Mrs) Ololade Ojo, its Chief Medical Director, over thirty-one facilities were inspected.

Dr. Ojo, represented by the head of clinical services, Dr Ayodele, affirmed that, in the Public Private Partnership initiative, the FMC would be more supportive of ABUAD in the areas of research and learning.
