When the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) decided to establish a University, he was crystal clear in his vision to establish a world-class university and reform education by example. While many other public and private universities were still struggling to find their footing on their temporary sites, the founder of ABUAD, known for his uncompromising industry and determination, set out to build his dream of a unique university on its permanent site on 1,300 hectares of land.
At the time the NUC Committee on Private Universities came on a resource assessment visit to the university in 2009, preparatory to the grant of its operational license they were pleasantly surprised by the level of infrastructural development already in the university. Thus, they spontaneously declared that the university is a model, benchmark and reference point for other universities to follow.
Barely 3 years in existence and preparatory to graduating the first set of students, the university presented 14 programmes for accreditation to NUC. The result of the exercise communicated to the University by the NUC in its official letter of 19th June, 2013 shows that all the programmes presented by the university have been accredited by NUC.
By this feat, the University has justified the faith and prophetic pronouncement reposed on it by the regulatory body and the high hopes and commendations of other well meaning Nigerians who continue to acknowledge and eulogize the leading reformatory education championed in Nigeria by the University.
The unprecedented achievement is indeed worth celebrating, especially considering the fact that many older universities are still struggling either with interim or denied accreditation status for many of their programmes. The news has spurred instant celebration among students, staff, parents and intending students who are assured of accredited quality degrees in ABUAD.
We the members of the Board of Trustees of ABUAD by this medium therefore, heartily congratulate the Founder, the University Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Israel Orubuloye Chairman accreditation and quality assurance and other members of his committee, management, staff, students and parents for this outstanding and historic achievement. We also immensely thank the NUC boss Prof. Julius Okojie and his officials for the relentless support for ABUAD and other Nigerian Universities in ensuring qualitative education delivery in the country.
